Art Magazine Design

For a graphic design assignment, I designed a magazine layout based on Doyel Joshi’s sculpture Red Melting Ice, presented at the India Art Fair. The piece—a slow-melting red ice form—explores ideas of impermanence, trauma, and emotional release. These themes guided the visual direction of the magazine.

The spreads use a red tonal palette to reflect the sculpture’s intensity and symbolism. Layouts shift from structured to freeform, echoing the melting process. Typography is intentionally disrupted, with softened grids and fading headlines to convey dissolution and emotional weight.

The design philosophy focused on translating the emotional tone of the artwork into editorial form. Rather than directly replicating the sculpture, the magazine uses visual cues—fluid layouts, transparency, and fragmentation—to engage with its themes of transformation and loss.
